Prince Maduekwe was born in Port Harcourt, River State, Nigeria.
He lives and works in both Nigeria and in Richmond Texas, United States of America. He graduated in 1993 at the Art School of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu State, Nigeria. He majored in painting.
His works are recognised by the playful scrolls and swirls of his colour pencil and the unusual way he combines them with other materials, especially dirt. The recurring themes that he addresses visually are feminism, sexuality, popular culture as well as the relationship to spirituality.
He had exhibited in the UK, South Africa, USA, and Nigeria. His most recent show and residency was at the Project Space during the Art X and Lagos Biennale 2019. Prince has won commendations and awards by Harris County and the City of Houston for having mentored and worked with more than 500 at-risk inner city kids through projects sponsored by Spark Park, defunct Museum of Cultural Arts Houston, the Port of Houston, and the Worksource.
He is a veteran of the United States Army.
